The thesis aims to inspect the history of diet soft drinks from their creation to today, while also inspecting how soft drinks are manufactured, the artificial sweeteners in diet soft drinks, and the health concerns that developed due to studies on them. As a result, the question is how safe diet soft drinks are compared to regular soft drinks. To acquire data and results that would lead to the conclusion, information was accumulated through online research of health studies that used diet soft drinks to determine potential health effects. After the data and results were acquired through the studies, there were conflicting results found in certain areas. These include weight loss and weight gain, liver health, and blood sugar control were all found when researching the health effects of diet soft drinks. However, other results such as cardiovascular health, tooth decay, depression, and stroke all showed adverse effects when consuming diet soft drinks at a high consumption rate. In conclusion, diet soft drinks may be as hazardous as regular soft drinks based on the health effects found.
